In the AI Era, a Team That Cares Is a Legal Asset

During these times of enormous technological development, it is imperative to go back to our most human fundamentals. I want to alert my clients and my neighbors to the importance of fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment. A place in which every team member feels safe to communicate doubts openly.

AI is a powerful new tool, and the worst thing we can have in our businesses is team members making mistakes because they are afraid of admitting they do not know what they don’t know.

In no recent historical time has trust in each other been more vital for businesses. Now more than ever, we need to move forward as teams led by respect and trust in each other. Now more than ever, business owners must cultivate proper communication skills and preserve healthy work cultures. If your team does not feel comfortable asking questions, or if they think admitting uncertainty will be penalized, mistakes will be made and you, the business owner, will pay for it.

Start by bringing back the basics: motivate your team to ask questions and ask them questions too. Show them it is okay to ask. Reassure your team that no one knows AI fully. We will figure things out together.

Business owners who will make it through this technological revolution are not going to be the strongest ones, nor the toughest ones, and not the ones that impose unrealistic expectations of excellence upon their workforce. The ones that will survive will be the ones that understand that the strongest fabric is the human fabric, and that the most resilient business asset they have is the sincere commitment of their people: both their clientele and their workforce.

That kind of commitment cannot be imposed by force. It is voluntary, and it is only born out of gratitude. Research in workforce satisfaction clearly shows workers feel grateful for their jobs, even when they are performing hard work, when they feel dignified. Dignity comes from feeling needed and seen.

Hence, now that we are all navigating the tempestuous waters of technological change, we need a crew that will not jump ship and my friends, that can only be reached by making our businesses places they sincerely love. Now more than ever, we need to understand that we do not need to be bosses who boss people around. We cannot afford to be the “mean Boss”. We are coaching a Team! We are building a team! Every player is valuable and very much needed. We need to make sure we make them feel that they belong.

At the end of the day, preventing risk is always connected to the level of care inside a business. A team that cares, asks questions. A team that cares, pays attention. A team that cares, protects the business. And in that sense, a team that cares is not only a human asset, but also a legal asset.

Food for thought. Yours truly,

Your Bz Esq.
